Message	Energy from the alternator isn't 'wasted' if not used, its just not generated. Yes, the amount of energy required for this is small, but then so is the output. As for the people who say it 'works', I'm figuring its a mixture between confirmation bias, and refusing to admit when they are wrong. A lot of things can affect fuel mileage a few MPG in each direction that you cannot be sure are constant.
